Les Miserables coming to Sydney - March 2015

Les Miserables sydney

Les Miserables fans who dreamed a dream about the hit musical coming to Sydney can now rejoice.

Mere hours after it opened to critical acclaim in Melbourne, theatre producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh has announced the new production of Boublil & Schonberg's legendary musical will open in Sydney in March, 2015.

Mackintosh says he's very excited.

"Sydney holds a very special place in the history of Les Mis, opening to our very first Australian audiences in 1987 and we are delighted to be bringing this new production to Sydney next year," he says.

NSW Tourism and Major Events Minister Andrew Stoner says it's estimated more than 91,000 visitors will come to Sydney to see the production.

"After almost 30 years, a feature film and many famous productions, Les Miserables remains incredibly popular with audiences," he says.

The last time Les Miserables was in Australia was the 10th anniversary tour, which opened in Sydney in 1997 and wrapped in Brisbane two years later.
